Australian modern metalcore pioneers Make Them Suffer released their highly anticipated self-titled album last week, marking a triumphant chapter in their over-decade-long career. Out now via Greyscale Records and SharpTone Records, the 11-track offering is a full-circle moment, blending the band’s hallmark ferocity with bold sonic exploration.
This latest release sees Make Them Suffer fully embrace their identity, threading melodic light and blistering darkness through themes of mental health, small-town isolation, and post-apocalyptic rumination. Vocalist Sean Harmanis describes it as the culmination of their artistic evolution:
“The end product of this album is the amalgamation of all of our years of hard work, experimentation, and experience. It represents a new chapter, but it’s also one that we’ve been building and working towards for our entire careers.”
Produced alongside long-time collaborator Jeff Dunne (Disturbed, Ice Nine Kills), the album emerged from homegrown arrangements, later polished in an intense two-week studio session in Portland, Oregon. Tracks like “The Warning” and “Mana God” delve into the band’s heavier roots, while “Tether” and “Venusian Blues” showcase melodic dexterity and haunting earworms.
To celebrate the album’s release, the band has also shared a visualizer for the closing track, “Small Town Syndrome”, a poignant anthem about escaping the suffocating confines of a judgmental hometown. Harmanis reflects:
“It’s describing someone trying to flee their hometown. Everyone’s always watching and talking about each other, so there’s this paranoia and fear surrounding all of that. That song’s pretty much about Perth.”

This release caps off a monumental year for Make Them Suffer. In 2024, the band toured with Bring Me The Horizon and Sleep Token, performed at major festivals like Download Festival and Copenhell, and headlined sold-out shows during their Suffer Forever Australian tour. Upcoming plans include a headline performance in New Zealand before joining Bury Tomorrow for a European and UK tour.
