The Hype (formerly 3REE) release new single ‘Something In The Water’

The newly re-branded Australian pop-punk duo, The Hype, formerly known as 3REE, have unveiled their new single, ‘Something In The Water’, a hard-hitting track that reflects on the relentless journey of being an artist in 2024. The single takes the band’s sound in a darker, post-hardcore direction, showcasing a new level of intensity from Mitch Volcan (vocals, guitar) and Sean Tighe (drums). The track is a genre hopping journey full of catchy melodies, pounding drums and soaring synths, with the addition of Volcan’s slick rap delivery in the verses, that sits sonically somewhere between Bring Me The Horizon and Twenty One Pilots. Lyrically, ‘Something In The Water’ captures the reality of life as an up and coming artist while celebrating the exhilarating highs that come from breaking through the grind.

Discussing the inspiration behind the single, Volcan explained, “‘Something In The Water’ was written while on tour with our heroes, The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, in America. We were thinking about how tough it is to be an artist in 2024. We sometimes feel down and out, or too focused on being a content creator, but there’s something special about actually getting out there and doing it for real. That’s the drug that makes us move forward and never give up.

Reflecting on their decision to rebrand, the band shared that their achievements in 2023, including the success of the single ‘Set This Place On Fire’, which featured Kellin Quinn of Sleeping With Sirens, led them to reconsider their identity.
