Set It Off are back, and they’re furious. The independent rock trio have just dropped “Pathological”, the venom-fuelled opening track from their upcoming self-titled album (out 7th November).
“It’s unfortunate – the number of people I’ve come across in my lifetime that feel the need to make stuff up all the time because they feel like their current life isn’t exciting enough,” frontman Cody Carson explains. “At first they seem like little white lies that just embellish somebody’s stories, but as they get away with it, they realise they can lie all the time. Then, it gets out of hand – because it always does – and it ruins their life. This song is my response to the handfuls of people I’ve met who took advantage of my kindness in order to get ahead.,, I don’t have to name names, because everybody else already knows.”
The track is pure controlled chaos. Thick, stomping riffs meet Cody’s spitfire delivery in a swirl of rage and release. It’s the kind of song that feels like it’s been brewing for a long time, an overdue explosion from a band who’ve always worn their emotions on their sleeve.
Following the success of “Punching Bag”, “Rotten” and “Wolf In Sheep’s Clothing [REBORN]”, Set It Off are deep into their new, independent era, which seems to be taking them to new heights. “Every previous album was so necessary for us to be able to find this sound,” Cody says. “This is not the final destination, but it’s the road we should have been running down the whole time.”
“Pathological” hits harder than anything the band have put out before. A totally unfiltered statement proving that Set It Off are what happens when a band takes full control of their sound. It might not always be pretty, but it’s real.
They’ll be hitting the road across North America this fall on The Self-Titled Tour with Fame On Fire, VANA and The Pretty Wild, kicking off October 28 in Atlanta and running through December.
