Rising punk rock force Heart Attack Man have officially announced their fourth full-length album, Joyride The Pale Horse, set for release on April 25, 2025. Alongside the announcement, the band has dropped two brand-new tracks, offering a taste of what’s to come.
Frontman Eric Egan describes the album as a reflection of the tension between hope and despair: “With every song of ours that comes to life, I have a thought in the back of my mind that it could be the last good song we ever write. At the same time, in many ways, it feels like we’re just getting started and have only just begun to tell our story. This album is the intersection of pessimism and optimism; firmly between life and death.”
The Cleveland-based band recorded Joyride The Pale Horse in 2024 at The Barbershop studio in New Jersey, once again teaming up with producer Brett Romnes. Musically, the album draws inspiration from Hum, Failure, Type O Negative, Quicksand, and Unwritten Law, incorporating intricate time signatures and a thick layer of ’90s fuzz.
The band’s ability to blend raw energy with thoughtful songwriting is evident in their new tracks. The haunting yet anthemic Laughing Without Smiling opens with creaky acoustic guitar before erupting into a powerful chorus. Meanwhile, Spit takes a darker turn, critiquing the rise of artificial intelligence with lyrics like, “Kill me and replace me with a hologram. No one will ever know the difference, much less even give a damn.”
“It gets into A.I.,” Egan explains. “What does A.I. mean for the creative process? Is it the end of human creativity? Spit is a tongue-in-cheek sarcastic confrontation. I don’t like the idea of everyone relying on robots more and more. It’s my snarky pushback.”
