Deftones are officially back!

The GRAMMY® Award-winning, multi-platinum alt-metal titans from Sacramento have announced their long-awaited 10th studio album, private music, which is set to drop August 22, 2025 via Reprise/Warner Records. Pre-orders are live now.

The announcement arrives alongside a brand new single, “my mind is a mountain,” a moody, slow-burning track that scratches all those classic Deftones itches and hints at the sonic evolution of the upcoming record. The song was premiered exclusively by Zane Lowe as his latest World Record on Apple Music, accompanied by an in-depth conversation with Chino Moreno, Stephen Carpenter, Abe Cunningham, and Frank Delgado, filmed at Canter’s Deli in Hollywood.

private music was recorded and co-produced by the band alongside Grammy-winning producer Nick Raskulinecz, marking their third collaboration following fan-favourite albums Diamond Eyes (2010) and Koi No Yokan (2012). The sessions took place in various iconic locations across California—including Malibu and Joshua Tree—as well as Nashville, Tennessee.

As expected from Deftones, the record sees them continuing to blur genre boundaries and emotional extremes. The album’s 11 tracks (intentionally stylised in lowercase except for the mysterious “cXz”) suggest a deep dive into dreamlike textures, crushing heaviness, and atmospheric tension – everything a Deftones die hard could ask for.

private music tracklist:

  • my mind is a mountain

  • locked club

  • ecdysis

  • infinite

  • source souvenir

  • cXz

  • i think about you all the time

  • milk of the madonna

  • cut hands

  • ~metal dream

  • departing the body

Alongside the album news, Deftones have picked up multiple new RIAA certifications in the U.S.:

  • White Pony is now 2x-Platinum

  • Diamond Eyes is certified Platinum

  • “Change (In The House of Flies)” is 4x-Platinum

  • “Be Quiet and Drive” is 2x-Platinum

The accolades follow their massively successful North American tour earlier this year—Deftones’ first full headline run since 2022. Every date sold out, including iconic venues like Madison Square Garden and a historic two-night stand at L.A.’s Kia Forum. Their recent UK run also saw them play their biggest UK headline show ever at London’s Crystal Palace Park to 25,000 fans.

Deftones will hit the road again this summer with a second North American leg launching August 22 in Vancouver, BC—the same day private music is released. Support on select dates comes from Phantogram, IDLES, and The Barbarians of California, with huge shows planned at Rocket Arena (Cleveland), Ball Arena (Denver), and T-Mobile Center (Kansas City), among others.

Several dates will also feature appearances at Shaky Knees, Louder Than Life, and Aftershock festivals.

As if that wasn’t enough, Deftones have also confirmed a massive EU/UK tour for early 2026, kicking off January 29 in Paris and wrapping February 20 at London’s iconic O2 Arena. They’ll be joined by Denzel Curry and Drug Church across the 15-date arena run, with stops in Brussels, Berlin, Amsterdam, Manchester, Dublin, and more.

Tickets go on general sale Friday, July 18 at 9am BST via deftones.com.
