BLACKGOLD team up with Benji Webbe for Cyprus Hill cover ‘Insane in the Brain’

Masked misfits Blackgold are back with a high-octane cover of the Cypress Hill classic “Insane in the Brain.” The track, featuring the Skindred frontman Benji Webbe, blends the vibes from the original with Blackgold’s signature mix of nu-metal and hip-hop with frontman Spookz and Benji delivering their distinct vocal flavours.

“What’s not to love about BLACKGOLD, masks, nu-metal, and Cypress Hill?” Benji Webbe shared. “I was buzzing to get involved. This tune kills! It’s a rock club anthem on a Saturday night that will get any room rocking to a whole new height.”

This song follows Blackgold’s previous successful collaboration with Jason Butler of Fever333 on a cover of “I Ain’t Goin’ Out Like That,” another Cypress Hill hit that has become a fan favourite in their live performances. “Insane in the Brain” continues the band’s tribute to the hip-hop legends and will be part of a forthcoming mixtape dedicated to Cypress Hill.

Speaking about the new track, BLACKGOLD’s Spookz commented, “After doing the first Cypress Hill track, we wanted to do an old-school mixtape, more of a homage to Cypress Hill than just a cover. On the Skindred tour, we were all having so much fun, it was a no-brainer to do one with Benji, and ‘Insane in the Brain’ was a perfect fit. The whole recording vibe was mega—I think you can hear that in the final mix for sure.”
