Basement Announce First Album in Eight Years ‘Wired’ and Share Two New Singles

British alternative rock favourites Basement have announced their long-awaited return with a brand new album Wired, set for release on May 8 via Run For Cover Records. The record marks the band’s first new full-length in eight years and sees them reunited with the label that helped launch their career.
To preview the upcoming release, the band have dropped two lead singles “Wired” and “Broken By Design” offering a glimpse at the dynamic scope of the album.
The title track “Wired” arrives as one of the most urgent songs the band have ever recorded, driven by razor-sharp guitars, pounding drums and a soaring hook that puts Andrew Fisher’s vocals front and centre. In contrast, “Broken By Design” takes a more restrained approach: dusky, bass-led and delicate while still carrying the instantly recognisable emotional pull that defines Basement’s sound.
Speaking about the songs, vocalist Andrew Fisher explained the themes behind the title track: “‘Wired’ is about how sometimes it feels that we are set up to feel and behave in certain ways beyond our control. That no matter how hard you try to hide it, eventually it will come out — either by choice or by force.”
Fisher also revealed the track almost didn’t make it onto the record: “This song was almost lost — a few of us were into it, but it sort of lost traction for a bit. Then one day it cropped back up and we put it at the forefront of our minds and it ended up being one of my favourite songs to perform and record.”
Meanwhile, “Broken By Design” reflects on personal growth, communication, and reconnecting with the band’s original motivations. “It’s about giving something your absolute best and realising it’s destined to fail… When I’m singing ‘let’s go back to the start’ I mean to when we did this purely for fun — to see each other, travel, and be creative.”
Basement approached Wired with the goal of making their most definitive artistic statement yet. The band spent years writing and refining the album’s 12 tracks together before entering the studio, ensuring the songs were fully formed ahead of recording.
Production duties were handled by John Congleton known for his work with St. Vincent and Mannequin Pussy, who helped the band capture what guitarist Alex Henery calls the sound he had “always wanted Basement to sound like.”
The record also arrives after a period of reflection for the band. Following 2018’s Beside Myself, the group stepped back after a challenging experience working within the major label system.
“We were all left with a really weird, sour taste in our mouth after signing to a major label and having all these people control things,” Fisher admitted.
During their hiatus, each member explored other creative paths and even questioned whether the band should continue. Ultimately, renewed conversations between Fisher and Henery reignited their creative partnership and set the foundation for Wired.
To celebrate the new album, Basement will head out on a European tour this summer and appear at All Points East in London this August, with North American dates expected to be announced soon.
