The XCERTS are back! The Aberdeen-formed, Brighton-based trio have unveiled “do it to myself”, their first original music since 2023 and a thunderous reintroduction that doubles as their debut release on new label FLG Records.
“do it to myself” finds The XCERTS performing at their very best as they effortlessly deliver memorable hooks with driving grooves and blissful guitars. It’s a testament to their raw talent that even after 2 decades in the game, they can still churn out the hits.
“There’s a desperate urgency about this song,” says vocalist and guitarist Murray Macleod “It’s an admission of my fragility and tendency to self-sabotage when things aren’t good as they are. It’s a hard indie rock song, but the lyrics and vocal delivery are really vulnerable. That conflicting feeling was intentional — we wanted it to feel uncomfortable, honest, and human.”
Crucially, “do it to myself” was written collaboratively in the same room, something the band didn’t do on 2023’s Learning How to Live and Let Go. That shared creative process crackles through the track, capturing three musicians fully locked into one another after navigating personal and collective turbulence.
The release arrives during a particularly active period for the band’s members, with Macleod recently appearing as a guest vocalist on As It Is’ single “Ruin My Life”, alongside a stint as live guitarist for Idlewild.
Further music is expected from The XCERTS will follow in 2026. Keep them peeled!
