Sweet Pill Share New Single “Glow”
Philadelphia/New Jersey quintet Sweet Pill have unveiled their smouldering new single “Glow”, the second taste of their forthcoming sophomore album Still There’s A Glow, due out March 13th via Hopeless Records.
Following the release of lead single “No Control”, “Glow” sees the band leaning into a darker, more introspective space as floaty melodies and crunchy guitars are met with hazy, dreamlike atmospherics.
“‘Glow’ is about living my life with my eyes closed. Realizing I may be on the way to rock bottom, I kind of want to pretend it is not happening. We all know what this is called: D E N I A L,” explains singer Zayna Youssef. “I perceive through this hazy lens that is constantly fogged by a glow. To me, a glow is a shape with no contour lines–a limitless being that sucks you in as you stare. I am in a daydream-like state refusing to snap out of it. This impaired judgement that I wear sugarcoats and distracts me from the reality in front of me. Yet, maybe I want to keep my eyes closed for a little longer…”

Still There’s A Glow is shaping up to be a deeply personal and hard-won record for Sweet Pill. Written and recorded after a turbulent three years following their 2022 debut Where The Heart Is and after scrapping an entire album’s worth of demos, the new record captures a band in the midst of self-reflection, healing, and growth.
Youssef reflects on that period of change: “I went through some depression last spring, and then I went into therapy. It was also a big turning point in my life as I was about to turn 30, while I’d written our first record when I was graduating from college–that’s a big change, I could’ve kept making bad choices because they’re easy, but I had to come clean to myself. Half the album was written before and the other half after, so the songs are kind of hard on myself but some are also hopeful, with a light at the end of the tunnel. You put out a fire, there’s still an ember that’s still glowing–that’s the record. It’s about being at a low and climbing out of it.”

Sweet Pill will appear at Download Festival in the UK in June.
