Alt-rock upstarts Sweet Pill have unveiled their latest single, “Smoke Screen”, the fourth and final preview from their sophomore album Still There’s A Glow. The track melds shimmering melodies with smouldering undertones, capturing the band’s signature blend of emotional intensity and cathartic energy.

“This song is sorta like the inner monologue of battling your self-doubt,” explains singer Zayna Youssef. “For ‘Smoke Screen,’ I see myself being destructive like fire, not easy to contain and ruining everything I touch, spreading fast. Sometimes we need to slow down and clear the voices out of our head. Or in this case, blow away the smoke screen and have a little clarity.”

The upcoming album is a raw, self-reflective journey, written in the wake of a turbulent three years since their 2022 debut Where the Heart Is. After scrapping nearly an entire album’s worth of demos, Sweet Pill started fresh, channeling personal growth and introspection into each track. “Half the album was written before therapy, and the other half after,” Youssef reveals. “You put out a fire, there’s still an ember that’s still glowing–that’s the record. It’s about being at a low and climbing out of it.”

Thematically, the album leans heavily into fire and destruction metaphors, representing personal struggle, accountability, and renewal. Tracks like “Sun Blind”, “Glow”, and “Slow Burn” complement Smoke Screen, forming a cohesive narrative of confronting one’s inner demons while striving for clarity and hope.

“Seeing Zayna change influenced the band–we grew, both as songwriters and as people,” Williams says. Youssef adds, “A lot of the album is about the hurdle of being kind to yourself, making good choices for yourself. This was our first time writing as a band and to an audience, and it’s so honest and vulnerable. I hope it makes people feel like they can be honest with themselves in the same way.”
