Previous The Newlist stars STATE OF YOU warm up for the last single before their new EP drops 24th January ‘On A Knife’s Edge’. This powerful track has some really powerful visuals around mental health, anxiety and the anguish experienced during a challenging break-up. Something that we’re proud to see placed more prominently and supportively amongst our scene. This isn’t to detract however from the solid hardcore riff explosions that engulf the song and make it a true adrenaline rush of sonic joy.
On the track vocalist Steve Sitkowski shares: “When you are in the middle of a break-up it feels like your whole world is crumbling and the person that was your anchor has turned into your enemy . When people argue, they rarely listen to the other side of the argument . It’s very much a “fuck you – you hurt me” situation. This song is coming from the standpoint of someone who has been a punching bag for a long time. I’ve had breakups where it’s felt like my confidence has been severed at the spine but you do get through it. So this is a sad love story that doesn’t end well. Plus that chorus is dying for a sweaty venue full of people screaming the lyrics back at me.”
As we head into 2025, the band are preparing for their debut EP release on January 24th; ‘On A Knife’s Edge’; a broad and deep listen lyrically as the band delve into the pressures of modern day life (‘Cut The Rope’), saying goodbye to “rockstar” tropes (‘To The Core’), striving for society-pressured perfection (‘Double-Barrelled’) and a fluid relationship with alcohol. Formed after the disbandment of some much-loved underground UK bands including Outcry Collective, Polar and Hildamay, STATE OF YOU are one we’re definitely heading out to see live at their EP launch show at The Black Heart, London, 25th January 2025.
