The hottest heavy band around right now have taken a page out of the Architects release leaf book and dropped a surprise 3 Track EP “Rotoscope” which you can stream right now! Not only that but they have dropped a music video for the title track. “Rotoscope” is the band’s first new music since their powerhouse chart topping debut album, ‘Eternal Blue’ that has seen the band perform shows all over the world this year. The EP has that familiar Spiritbox sound and production but with added extras, they experiment with a more industrial, 90s alt-rock-tinged sound which works well in their favour, however don’t worry is you’re just a fan of the heavy stuff they still have some menacingly heavy beatdowns to satisfy all your mosh needs! Courtney LaPlante’s vocals again go from ethereal beauty to crushingly brutal in the drop of a hat, she has a unique way of mixing in pop melodies and rhythmic patterns into the heaviness of the music without it sounding off. Musically the band have pushed the boundaries, bringing in more industrial style electronics to accompany Mike Stringer’s intricate riffing that not only add soundscape elements but make parts feel more dancey and upbeat such as in the title track “Rotoscope” where the NIN influence is strong in parts. The EP seems like a natural progression of the band’s sound and affirms this Spiritbox are only just getting started!
