Pittsburgh deathcore behemoths SIGNS OF THE SWARM have dropped a devastating new single, ‘Clouded Retinas’, featuring deathcore icon Will Ramos of Lorna Shore. The track lands just as the band gears up for a huge European festival run that includes Hellfest, Graspop, Rock for People, Sweden Rock, and a co-headline slot at the long-awaited return of Ghostfest in the UK.
Laced with atmospheric dread and savage intensity, ‘Clouded Retinas’ is a deeply personal cut for vocalist David Simonich, who penned the song about his diagnosis with Stargardt disease, a degenerative eye condition that has caused progressive vision loss. “The song is about my struggle coming to terms with my vision loss,” Simonich explains. “I asked my friend Will Ramos to hop on the song not just to make it sound sick, but also to spread awareness of degenerative diseases and disability. With Will holding it down for today’s deathcore, I tried to showcase my influences from Nate Johnson and Vincent Bennett because the song feels modern yet nostalgic at the same time.”
‘Clouded Retinas’ is the second single from the band’s sixth full-length album, To Rid Myself of Truth, which drops August 22 via Century Media Records. It follows the earlier release of the ferocious ‘HELLMUSTFEARME’ and sets the tone for what promises to be their most unrelenting material yet.
