OAKMAN release video for brand new single ‘Curse’

Ahead of their brand new album “Violent Oblivion” (out 3rd May 2024 via Rude Records) French-based alt rock trio OAKMAN have released a video for new single ‘Curse’. The song is an emotionally charged upbeat pop rock anthem with arpeggiated synths and huge electronic drums providing the backdrop for vocalist Marine Lanzillotta to lay it all bare on.

Speaking about the new single OAKMAN said, “‘A year ago, we wrote the song ‘Murder,’ which described the point of view of a victim suddenly imagining herself, in her fantasy, becoming the murderer of her abuser. But what about the trauma years later? That’s what ‘Curse’ is about. The song delves into an inner struggle against past trauma or toxic relationships. The lyrics evoke the desire to free oneself from memories and feelings associated with a painful experience, which persist despite everything. The repetition of the refrain ‘But I won’t surrender’ expresses the refusal to give in to the power these thoughts and memories have over the person, affirming that she refuses to be dominated by them and fights for her own healing and emotional freedom”

Speaking on the upcoming album the band said,“Violent Oblivion is that violent break with the outside world, our own emotions, and the encounter with our traumas. Through the songs, it represents the different mental states Violent Oblivion can put us in. The powerful catchy melodies and lively instrumentals conceal deep and strong feelings, mental problems, excitement, fear and despair. Getting out of this Violent Oblivion is a big challenge, so we eventually hang on to find some hope and love to cope”.
