NEW MUSIC FRIDAY

NEW MUSIC FRIDAY

It’s may only be March but 2023 has already thrown us some incredible music from across the alternative spectrum and this past week has been no different! Here is our rundown of some of the best releases to hit the airways this week from some bands you know and some you may not…

Enter Shikari – Bloodshot

The Shikari boys just don’t miss even almost two decades into their career they are still churning out hits and “Bloodshot” from their forthcoming album “A Kiss For The Whole World” is a prime example. The song has a definite shift in tone from the previous singles yet keeps a lot of the familiar Shikari-isms we all know and love. “Bloodshot” has a moody, slightly solemn vibe to it yet still hits hard with some The Prodigy-esque electronics and big head bang moments that lay the bed for vocalist Rou Reynolds to address some true to life issues we all face with the spread of information online.

Fresh off touring metal giants Gojira, Employed To Serve have today released a deluxe version of their current studio album, Conquering. This updated version includes 4 new tracks including this heavy banger entitled ‘Take Back Control’. The song is an aggressive riff fest that has all the best elements of the bands fast and furious sound that will simultaneously have you wanting to bang your head and fuck shit up.

Hell’s Ditch – Ghosts

From industry veterans to some newbies now in the form of Hell’s Ditch! They’re a new British punk rock group with “total heart and determination” and will be releasing their debut EP ‘Take Cover’ via Silent Cult on 23rd March 2023. If you’re a fan of bands like The Menzingers, Against Me! & The Gaslight Anthem then Hell’s Ditch will be right up your street. Their new single “Ghosts” brings that Americana Punk Rock sound but with a distinct British flavour. Definitely ones to look out for!

The XCERTS – Ache ft. Sam Carter

One of pop rock’s finest bands The Xcerts have returned recently with new music and this week dropped another new single this time enlisting the help of close friend Sam Carter of Architects. “Ache” is tune full to the brim of hooks, sweet melodies and heartfelt lyrics with the addition of Sam Carter delivering a full on pop verse showcasing his diversity as a vocalist. Our only complaint is that it has you wanting more with a run time of just 1 minute and 44 seconds!

Hot Mulligan – Shhhh! Golf is On

“Post-Emo” pioneers and creators of some of the most imaginative song titles around Hot Mulligan have announced their forthcoming new album ‘Why Would I Watch’ which is out 12th May 2023 and this week dropped new single “Shhhh! Golf Is On”. The song is an emotionally fuelled anthem that hits you right in the gut as singer Tades Sanville’s incredible performance full of personal anguish bursts through the speakers.

Gallus – Eye To Eye

Scottish indie punks GALLUS have announced their debut album ‘We Don’t Like the People We’ve Become’ set for release 9th June 2023 on Marshall Records and dropped new single “Eye To Eye”. The band deliver their brand of gritty indie punk with all the venom and swagger of bands such as Idles and Kid Kapichi but with their distinctive Scottish filter. “Eye To Eye” tackles the real life issues surrounding working for minimal wage, as they explain: “The song tries to express the frustration of having no autonomy or independence in the workplace. Shit work for shit wages, and you’ll do it with a smile.”

Black Coast – Chains

More exciting new music now with the single “Chains” by Black Coast. The song mashes together influences from 90s grunge, hardcore and Nu-Metal all wrapped up in a modern metal production that sounds as nostalgic as is does fresh, flitting between haunting verses, huge head banging riffs and memorable hooks with vocalist Charlie Hewitt delivering an impressive range of styles.

DRAIN – FTS (KYS)

Hardcore’s latest bright sparks DRAIN have given us another taste off their forthcoming album & Epitaph Records debut “Living Proof” which is set for release on the 5th May 2023. Their new single “FTS (KYS)” is taken from the record and is just over 2 minutes of pure hardcore excellency with power chord riffs galore, a range of pummelling drum grooves and a huge breakdown that will be a sure fire pit starter.

Manchester Orchestra – The Way

Alt Rock legends Manchester Orchestra have dropped another single entitled “The Way”. The song is from their new album The Valley of Vision which comes out digitally today, with a physical release set for 7th April. “The Way” is a beautifully haunting sonic journey as pianos and orchestral soundscapes weave in and out of electronic lo-fi beats while vocalist Andy Hull lays a an array of heartfelt vocal melodies on top, lyrically dealing with the struggles of battling with his own mind. It’s one of those rare musical experiences that has the ability to hit you right in the ‘soul’ and take you to a retrospective place in your mind only art of this caliber can.

PVRIS – GODDESS
