Marmozets Announce New Album ‘CO.WAR.DICE.’ & Share New Single ‘New York’

After sending fans into a frenzy last year with their comeback singles ‘Kiss From A Mother’ and ‘You Want The Truth’, Bingley’s Marmozets are now fully locking in their return with the announcement of their third album, ‘CO.WAR.DICE.’, due for release on May 22nd.

The album marks Marmozets’ first full-length release since 2018 and arrives alongside brand new single ‘New York, unveiled as the band continue a euphoric run of sold-out underplay shows across the UK. Their London date at Dingwalls on January 31st sold out in under five minutes, underlining just how much their return has been missed.

Sonically, ‘CO.WAR.DICE.’ captures the ferocity of classic Marmozets – Becca Bottomley’s blood-letting vocals and jagged riffs remain front and centre – but channels it into sharper, heavyweight songs that hit hard and fast. Live favourite ‘Cut Back’ is a frenetic, uncompromising burst of energy that already feels like one of their most immediate tracks to date, while ‘Running With The Sun in Your Eyes’ swaps aggression for an addictive, synth-driven groove.

There are surprises too. Fragile acoustic track ‘Dandy’ explores sparse, ethereal dream-pop territory, while ‘Keep Going Darling’ builds from pulsating loops into an expansive, experimental album closer that drifts into the ether.

Speaking on the album’s meaning, Becca Bottomley explains: “CO.WAR.DICE. is an album reflecting on the state of our world and a vow to ourselves to leave this world in a better place. We may never make a huge impact, but we can only try. Like any story there’s a beginning, middle and end – and we’ve chosen for a happy ending.”

The roots of the record began during a major life shift for the band. Becca and her husband, guitarist Jack Bottomley, had become parents and settled into a new chapter together. An impromptu Friday night jam at home led to ‘New York’, the first song they’d written in what felt like forever – and the spark that reignited everything.

On the track, Becca says: “New York is an eccentric city, full of eccentric people and that inspires us. We reminisced over our first trip over a bottle of red as we recorded ideas. We met a police officer smoking a cigar outside JFK, jumped in a cab while ‘Africa’ by Toto blasted as we approached Manhattan… We wanted to encapsulate that 70s punk energy while painting a picture of this wild experience we had playing a show downtown to secure our first record deal.”

The result is a spiralling, instantly addictive riff paired with Becca’s snarling punk delivery, capturing the thrill of being thousands of miles from home with the world at your feet.

From there, new horizons opened up. Becca’s brother Josh Macintyre helped translate ideas into fully-formed demos, while sibling Sam Macintyre stepped in on bass following the amicable departure of original member Will Bottomley. The reshaped line-up brought a new sense of space and power, drawing influence from the likes of The Cramps and Devo, before heading into album sessions primarily produced by Johnathan Gilmore (Biffy Clyro, Nothing But Thieves).

‘CO.WAR.DICE.’ is available to pre-order / pre-save now, with digital, CD and vinyl options, plus an exclusive coloured vinyl with signed insert and bundle options via the band’s official store.

Marmozets will wrap up their entirely sold-out underplay tour this week, before returning to huge stages this summer – including a slot supporting Biffy Clyro at London’s Finsbury Park on July 3rd, playing to a 45,000-strong crowd.
