Hunter Oliveri mashes grunge sensibilities with punk spirit

The slacker pro who is challenging the status quo: Hunter Oliveri

Some people just know who they are from day 1. Many of us take a bit to get going; our teenage years fuelled with exploration and changing attitudes, ambitions, fashion choices, hairstyles, outlooks on life and new favourite things. For Hunter Oliveri it’s been clear since his he was incredibly young, was that he was going to be a musician. With some choice guidance from the likes of Korn, Nirvana, Tool and so many more iconic teachers of the past 40 years of heavy music, Oliveri experimented with his own creations, learning quickly (as many do) it’s really really hard to form a band when you’re a teenager. Even more so when you’re not in a large city with plenty of communities to tap into. Not a deterrent for our Hunter, whose ‘luck’ as he so humbly puts it, is grounded on years of passion, practice and drive.

At just 17 years old and signed to one of the world’s most respected heavy music labels, he shares another single ‘Spiraling Out’. Showing a more playing, modern genre-bending approach to his writing style, layered with a truly honest reflection of his teenage experiences. Speaking about the track Hunter shares, “‘Spiraling Out’ is a song that carries multiple emotions, thoughts, and feelings,” the artist offers. “It’s about what it’s like when your feelings become overwhelming or unmanageable. You start to feel a spiral of negative emotions, thoughts, and behaviors. And sometimes, it can feel like being caught in a cycle of stress, anxiety, or despair. It’s like you’re losing control of everything and things are getting worse. However, the song is about recognizing these emotions or feelings, and working against them or trying to fight off the negative and trying to stay positive. It reminds you that you have to look for the best in every situation to work to try and stay happy.”
