A new 2 man supergroup has emerged! House of Protection is comprised of Aric Improta (Night Verses) and Stephen Harrison (The Chariot), the duo who were also both previous members of Fever 333 have joined forces once again for their new project and have just released their debut single “It’s Supposed To Hurt” via Red Bull Records. The band see’s Aric and Steve on drums and guitars but also take on vocal duties for the first time in their careers to deliver a powerful mix of all things that inspire them from rock, punk and hardcore to electronic music, hip hop and beyond.
Speaking on the meaning behind House of Protection, Aric says, “‘Protection’ was specifically chosen because it’s a Massive Attack song and I was reading their biography as we started this project. It was very inspiring when it came to us initiating this whole thing. The full name is because we wanted to build something that protected our creativity and ideas as well as the people that come to the shows.”
“We wanted to create something where all our ideas, no matter how wild, felt safe,” says Steve, and with influences including the likes of The Smashing Pumpkins, The Prodigy, Alice Glass, Massive Attack, Cocteau Twins and Sleigh Bells it is looking to be a super exciting and eclectic project.
Their debut single, “It’s Supposed To Hurt” which is produced by ex Bring Me The Horizon member Jordan Fish is a statement of intent and one that showcases their musical prowess and ability to write impactful and fresh sounding music. From the outset Aric’s impeccable drum skills are on show as electronic elements and deep bass lines sit tightly behind the groove before distorted guitars and the duo’s debut vocal performances, which, if you didn’t know you would think they had been doing it their whole careers as they flit between fast paced spoken word, screams and singing. It’s frantic, brash, melodic, groovy and heavy all in one and makes for a super exciting debut.
Speaking on the single, the band shares, “‘It’s Supposed To Hurt’ was the first song we wrote. Some of the vocals were from our initial improvisations. When we started this, we had no idea how we would sound or where we wanted to take it. Neither of us had sung before, we just knew the energy we wanted to create sonically and that we’d put in whatever time it took to get it to feel right. Fortunately, this song answered a lot of those questions instantly.”
“We knew it wasn’t going to be easy to start again from scratch but that phrase became our ethos. Starting again was the whole point of this”
