One of our ones to watch for 2024 Gürl have started the new year with a bang(er)! Their brand new single and video for ‘Boys In The 90s’ takes a step back from the darker sounds of their previous singles “HEXY” and “Medic” with some feel good pop rock vibes, while lyrically and thematically dealing with growing up in an era where the dualities of society and culture collide, as vocalist and lyricist Josh Dalton explains: “It’s about growing up poor, on a council estate, going to a special measures school, and getting beaten up by kids that think you’re ugly… but then coming home and watching these 90s movies where men aren’t really portrayed as typically masculine or handsome, but instead androgynous and beautiful. Seeing that and thinking, why can’t I look like that? It’s about insecurity, and rage, and reverence to 90s icons. Even the drum beat we ripped straight off Backstreet Boys.”

The accompanying music video see’s the band cosplay as a whole host of 90s icons from Kurt Cobain and Leo Di Caprio to Lara Croft, The Matrix and even Pokemon. Check out the video here:

‘Boys In The 90s’ is taken from their upcoming EP “Parma Violence” which due for release in May this year.
