Free Throw Release New Single ‘The Outlaw Star’

Free Throw have unleashed their second single, ‘The Outlaw Star’, taken from their forthcoming sixth album Moments Before The Wind, set for release on 27th March 2026 via Wax Bodega.

Born from the remnants of a scrapped studio idea, ‘The Outlaw Star’ is a testament to the band’s instinctive songwriting process.

“The Outlaw Star was born from the ashes of a failed attempt while working in the studio. We took the best parts of a broken song and reworked it to fit a faster more complete thought. The pace and power of Outlaw Star complement the entirety of ‘MBTW’,” the band explain.

The result? A driving, urgent cut that captures the emotional volatility and sharpened dynamics that define Moments Before The Wind.

Alongside the new single, the band have announced a special hometown show on 30th May at Brooklyn Bowl Nashville:

30th May – Brooklyn Bowl – Nashville, TN

Tickets go on sale Friday 27th May.

Having built their reputation through relentless touring sharing stages with Hot Mulligan and New Found Glory, and appearing at major festivals including Slam Dunk Festival, Riot Fest and The Fest, Free Throw have always felt in forward motion.

But on Moments Before The Wind, that momentum intentionally falters.

“The record has this theme of liminality – not just as a place, but in your mind,” vocalist and guitarist Cory Castro explains. “It’s like being stuck in a doorframe or a long hallway that never ends.”

Returning to longtime producer Brett Romnes (Hot Mulligan, The Movielife), the band wrote and recorded the album’s 11 tracks across two sessions, split by touring commitments. The time apart proved vital. When they came back, everything felt different, sharper, clearer, more honest.

Lyrically, Moments Before The Wind documents one of the most turbulent periods of Castro’s life: the end of a long-term relationship, the painful clarity of realising what was truly lost, and  midway through recording the life-changing news that he was going to become a father.

The closing track, “The Waters Of Life,” was written in the immediate aftermath of that revelation, serving as the emotional release valve that propels the record and Castro into something new.

“There was a lot to write about this time around, but getting over that threshold definitely took some time,” Castro says. “We tend to write albums that have a conceptual arc to them, but you just sort of have to let the songs reveal themselves and figure out what that actually is. When I got the call that I was going to be a dad, I immediately knew what song I was going to write. It just felt right.”

Moments Before The Wind lands 27th March 2026 via Wax Bodega.
