Dutch/Slovak deathcore outfit DISTANT have unveiled their intense new single and video “Spirit”, one of the band’s most personal and emotionally charged releases to date.
The track draws from a deeply traumatic real-life event experienced by someone close to the band. Explaining the story behind the song, the group shared: “Inspired by a real life stabbing of a family member at a clinic called Spirit, the track channels grief, shock, and the uncomfortable human surge of rage and revenge that follows trauma. It is raw emotion turned into relentless sound and not supposed to glorify violence, but it is meant to confront it and ultimately deal with its traumatising aftermath.”
Musically, “Spirit” delivers the crushing heaviness fans have come to expect from DISTANT, combining punishing riffs, relentless breakdowns, and visceral emotion. The track also features a guest vocal appearance from Tyler Beam of The Last Ten Seconds Of Life, whose ferocious performance adds another layer of intensity to the already devastating track.
The release arrives shortly after the band wrapped up a major European run alongside Sylosis and Revocation, as well as Life Cycles. DISTANT are showing no signs of slowing down, with a busy schedule ahead for 2026.
In May, the band will head to the United States for a new tour that includes several dates with Swedish metal legends In Flames, alongside Thrown and Upon Stone.
Festival season will also see DISTANT bringing their crushing live show to some of Europe’s biggest heavy music events, including Impericon Festival, Graspop Metal Meeting, Jera On Air and Resurrection Fest.
