Daze Of June are gunning for the big leagues with new single ‘Matriarch’

The ancient Viking city of Roskilde, Denmark is home to beautiful scenery, historic landmarks and a world renowned heavy music festival, an environment that is perhaps perfect for nurturing new musical talent to take on the world and Roskilde natives Daze Of June are doing just that. The modern metalcore group have already released two albums ‘Heart of Silver’ (2018) and ‘Tainted Blood’ (2021), cultivating a loyal following and racking up over 3 million streams online. They aren’t content with hanging their hats on these stats alone however and their new single “Matriarch” is a sign of intent to breach through to that next level in their careers.

The single is a well polished modern metalcore anthem as intricate detuned riffage, perfectly syncopated rhythmic patterns and swirling atmospherics lay the foundations for frontman Benjamin Julian Ganzhorn to deliver a powerful vocal performance atop of. His range of guttural screams huge soaring melodies provide plenty of sing-a-long moments and mosh calls while lyrically dealing with a very heavy and personal subject, as Benjamin explains: “Matriarch is about the death of my mother. The process of being completely broken and wanting to be destroyed, to the phase of acceptance and being able to go on living with the loss in the best way possible”. The ability to channel something negative into a positive creative output is admirable and is often a type of catharsis for the artist, it’s also part of the reason we love heavy music so much as it can be one of the best vessels to put all that emotion into.

‘Matriarch’ may be the band’s most personal and emotional track yet but sonically it’s up there with the genre’s big hitters and puts them right on that path to make Daze Of June a household name.
