Calva Louise release stunning sci-fi video For “Under The Skin”

The creative tour de force that is Calva Louise have released their brand new music video for ‘Under The Skin’, the release also marks their signing to Mascot Records (P.O.D., VOLA, Defects, Conquer Divide, Dragged Under and Oxymorrons). The video plays like a short film and follows the storyline the band have crafted since their inception and was not only written, shot and directed by the band but also edited and all the visual effects were made by singer/guitarist/keyboardist Jess Allanic using Unreal Engine, After Effects and Blender. The end product is nothing short of breathtaking and could give high budget productions a run for their money, which makes it even more impressive considering the minimal budget and size of the team working on it. The narrative is a continuation of previous videos but also introduces new concepts about the characters and their counterparts called the “Doubles” existing in parallel dimensions.
Speaking on themes of the song, Allanic says, “The lyrics deal with the obstacles that arise between them as one is looking for freedom and the other is looking to perpetuate their consciousness, but the expectations are not the same for both sides.”
The song was co-written by Allanic and Pendulum’s Gareth McGrillen and see’s them blend their brand of synth fuelled rock with heavy hitting riffs as Allanic demonstrates her vocal range from guttural screams to ethereal melodies. The song shifts in dynamics without seeming disjointed and serves to enhance the visuals and storyline the band have crafted.
