Black Sky Research released their first single back in 2020, just ahead of the global lockdown. They had a really bright and interesting sound, kindled by guitarist Luke Hicks, who connected friends from all over the country to fulfill his vision for the band. Not only were they combining heavy rock and nu-metal influences they also had the added aesthetic with a sci-fi storytelling narrative that comes across both in visuals, lyrics and (metaphorically) in their sonic construction. It’s an ambitious but vivid project which, despite only releasing six songs to date, have enabled them to play shows around the UK with the likes of Don Broco and build a respectable audience of global listeners. This new era of the band introduces a new singer, Sam Varlow and a signifies the beginnings of their new album (due 2025).

“The energy is electric” says the band on the new release. “REDUX is about new beginnings, looking back on a previous life before leaping into the unknown. This song is a powerful restart, marking the first of many new releases. With each track we’re preparing, we’re evolving the story and sound of Black Sky Research – there’s so much ahead, and we can’t wait to share it.”

Filmed in an abandoned manor in Lincolnshire, there’s a touch of class to this performance music video that feels like a bubble in a time-capsule:
