Beauty School Release ‘When I’m Feeling Down’

Yorkshire’s alternative rock torchbearers Beauty School return with a new single, ‘When I’m Feeling Down’—a contemplative, emotionally-driven tune that plays with upbeat melodic hooks and lyrical honesty.

Written during a time of personal flux, guitarist Dan Shaw penned the track while juggling grief, domestic uncertainty, and the kind of emotional limbo that tends to creep in when the noise of life dies down. “I was between jobs, the band was quiet and we wanted to sell our house,” Shaw explains. That introspection, sharpened by the recent loss of his grandparents, shaped a song that doesn’t wallow, but instead acknowledges the quiet ache of vulnerability.

Speaking on the music drummer Charlie Thomas adds: “I took a lot from 90s American radio rock, drawing from the likes of Third Eye Blind, into the drum parts”

The release hints at a broader creative push from the band, who are reportedly prepping their second album for later in the year.
