Canadian pop-punk outfit Bearings are back with a dose of existential sunshine. Their new single “Freaking Me Out” has arrived. This is the next track from their upcoming fourth album Comfort Company, out November 7 via Pure Noise Records. This single perfectly showcases Bearing’s ability to still hit that nostalgic pop-punk sweet spot inspired by those Warped Tour moments, whilst creating something that feels more grounded, more lived-in.

“Freaking Me Out was a song that started simple enough on an acoustic and the more we built it up the more fun we had with it,” frontman Doug Cousins explains. “It finds itself somewhere between a pool party and a manic episode where you question the meaning of life.”

It’s a perfect snapshot of where Bearings are right now: still chasing melody and warmth, but with a growing awareness of the lived chaos that comes with getting older.

“Comfort Company” sees the Ottawa band turning their gaze inward, reflecting on life’s fast pace and the feeling of growing up in a world that doesn’t slow down for anyone. Written during long drives and quiet moments between shows, the record was created at Toronto’s Room 21, the same studio where they made their first EP and Blue in the Dark. That return to their roots gives the album a sense of homecoming  both musically and emotionally.

Comfort Company is for us the record that feels like coming back home,” says Doug. “Some songs we wrote at a cottage together, others came from a basement. They all started somewhere honest and ended up back at the studio where we did our first album in the East End of Toronto. This album was working on music all day, walking to the beer store, then heading back to the windowless studio to relax before reading Kurt Vonnegut and eventually falling asleep on an air mattress. As we worked out what we wanted it to sound like we found ourselves wanting to make music that felt natural to us, something that we knew we’d connect with and be able to spill out on stage when the time came to perform it.”
