Irish genre crosser Bambie Thug has recently made waves on the global stage with their song ‘Doomsday Blue’ being selected as Ireland’s entry in this years’ Eurovision song contest and today they have released the official music video. Directed by Kassandra Powell (Lynks, Icona Pop, BIMINI), the video’s storyline follows “a young witch fed up with bad relationships, casting a spell to make a new boyfriend, but instead of a human they conjure up a strange creature. Transitioning back and forth between a dark witch realm and a candy-coloured dream world, the video perfectly captures the song’s shifting genres. Culminating in a metallic roar of electronic and heavy guitars, the end sequence sees the dream world begin to break down and quickly turn into a nightmare as the creature they conjured turns on them. The collision of the worlds signifies a breakdown of a toxic romance and mirrors the lyrical themes of the track.”

Speaking about the ‘Doomsday Blue’ video, Bambie said “Filming the music video for Doomsday Blue was mad! I’m so proud to have worked with an amazing team filled with so many queer and non-binary people. Camp are a dream to work with, and while the turnaround was ridiculously fast, there was a lot of heart and passion poured into it and I’m super grateful.

“Originally the story for the video was very dark, but since winning the Eurosong, there’s been so many people reaching out about how their children love the song, so I wanted to make sure the video was something enjoyable and accessible for people of all ages. My sister and I eventually came up with this idea of making it a little more cutesy, spooky and comedic.

“There’s a lot of odes to pop culture moments in there from Mean Girls and Barbie to The Creation of Adam (Michelangelo)…obviously all made a bit goth.

“I’m excited to share it with everyone and have it out in the world… now I can focus on bringing it to life in Malmö.”
