Australia’s Bad Juju deliver the full spread of heavy with “The Weight Of Water”

Australia has always a strong exporter of stellar metal artists – from AC/DC to Karnivool, Parkway Drive to Thy Art Is Murder, the continent has it’s heritage with the scene. In more recent times we’ve seen an explosion of colour from Windwaker to Alpha Wolf, SPEED to The Gloom In The Corner. With Bad Juju we meet a new breed of nu-metal, grunge and metalcore that’s backed with huge emotional weight and (to steal a quote from our very own Michael Fassbender as Magneto in X-Men First Class) the “point between serenity and rage” melodically. Recorded with Chris Lilac of Windwaker and released via Easy Life Records, this is band to keep an eye on. Previously touring with our favourites LANDMVRKS, Boston Manor and Loathe to name a few, it’s a great signal that things are only just starting for this era of Bad Juju.
Vocalist Russel Holland confirms “The Weight of Water is that band’s heaviest release to date. The lyrics confront the end of a long-term friendship where bad behavior was ignored until the illusion finally cracked. As the ‘high’ wears off, you see the truth, cut the deadweight, and walk away. It’s raw, confrontational, and unapologetic, capturing the moment denial ends and self-preservation takes over.” In terms of the heaviest it’s absolutely kicking down the (breakdown) barriers of even their 2024 EP ‘simulacra’ that saw the band fully graduate from alternative rock / grunge masters to embrace more metal aggressiveness and authority.
FFO: Bad Omens, Wage War, Dayseeker and even tipping into the more playful worlds of Poppy, Catch Your Breath and The Plot In You.
